  Hello,

  I come from Germany, but - unfortunately - I can't speak Dutch. So I hope you can help me in English or German.

  A week after unprotected sex my lymph nodes were swollen in the neck, I had shivers. That was in September this years. And since them they are still swollen!

  My doctor didn't find any solution, but he didn't make a HIV test. I have an awful fright!

  So a few weeks ago I did the HIV home test by the dutch company Mirates. The result: Negative. But I don't know if I can trust that result.

  You're living in the Netherlands - can you tell me something about the safety of this test and the company?

  Ich komme aus Deutschland und kann leider nicht Holländisch. Daher hoffe ich, dass Ihr mir auf Englisch oder Deutsch weiterhelfen könnt.

  Eine Woche nachdem ich ungeschützten Sex hatte, waren meine Lymphknoten am Hals geschwollen und ich hatte Schüttelfrost. Das war im September diesen Jahres. Und seitdem habe ich immer noch geschwollene Lymphknoten am Hals!

  Mein Arzt fand nichts heraus, er machte aber auch keinen HIV-Test. Ich hatte einfach riesige Angst!

  Vor ein paar Wochen (15 Wochen nach meinem Risikokontakt) machte ich einen HIV-Test der niederländischen Firma Mirates. Das Ergebnis: Negativ. Aber ich weiÿ nicht, ob ich dem Ergebnis wirklich trauen kann.

  Ihr lebt in den Niederlanden - könnt Ihr mir etwas über die Sicherheit dieses Tests oder etwas über diese Firma Mirates sagen?

  Hi Simon.

  A negative Mirates hiv 1,2 -antibody test, 12 weeks or later (!!!) after possible exposure to hiv, is highly accurate. It is not possible to claim absolutely sure you are negative since factors as… incorrect use of the test-set among others like… condition of preserving, can have influence making the test valueless in rare cases.

  Best to do is (re)testing at a hiv-testing checkpoint (for medical supervision.)

  Chance testresults will be negative again is very much likely.

  Thank you for your answer. I am sure that I did the test correctly.

  Do you know any trial of the Mirates HIV-test or why are you so sure with the accuracy?

  Unfortunately I'm too frightened of a “real” test… (
